“You'll get looked after ... (december 17, 2014)
at Mar de Luz, Victor Keulen the proud Dutch owner, his wife, & staff really do take good care of you. Reception is 24/7 so there's always someone on hand. Whatever I asked, it was never a problem for them. I even fancied a change of room half way through my holiday & that was sorted out too!
The rooms were clean, spacious, & had everything that you need. Beds were good quality & comfortable, & mine was changed 5 times during my 15 night stay! The girls worked hard to keep the rooms clean on a daily basis, & workmen were always on hand to do any repairs. Of course there's always room for improvement but that can be said for everything in life, & these people give their very best & I ain't complaining!
For breakfast you have 5 choices, I tried them all & really enjoyed them. Be warned the Tipico is very filling! There's loads of delicious, juicy fruit too, & the coffee is so good! Unfortunately, I didn't get around to try any other meals at the hotel but I would've liked to. Again the staff were brilliant & worked hard to look after us.
The grounds of the hotel are absolutely stunning! There's loads of iguana & birds in the trees to photograph. Also there's separate seating areas, one with a TV, radio, small library, exercise equipment, another couple with seating & a BBQ, & there's the kids play area, (yeah I tried the swings out too), & BBQ. There's 2 large pools & a small one for the kids.
I choose this hotel as it was affordable, also we prefer the smaller hotel & with just 29 rooms this was ideal. It can get a little lively at the weekend when the local people come to stay for a night or two. However, this was not a problem as it was nice to hear the hustle & bustle of these people enjoying themselves, & it is after all their home. Nevertheless at 10pm on any day of the week it's almost as if someone switched everything off as everything went silent, that's the rules & beauty of Mar de Luz!
“Excellent hotel that is close to the beach and everything”
Albert T (January 6, 2015)
The location is great, close to all major restaurant. The beach is just cross the street. The hotel staff and the owner are very friendly. Actually, the hotel owner took me to the bus station to buy ticket for us and sent us to the station in person. The breakfast was a very nice surprise.

“overwhelming comfort” (October 6, 2014)
We stayed in the hotel eight nights, in the beginning of this September, and can not recollect any,- even miscellaneous - detail that would make us feel dissatisfied, or even discomfort.
The staff, providing all the time, the maximum imaginable level of hospitality, was very welcoming, polite, extremely helpful in any needs we might have had during our vacation time, trying accommodate, immediately, any situation, for the sake of quality of our vacation.
We booked some very interesting local excursions,- at significantly lower rate-right through the hotel personnel's kindly offered assistance.
The clearness of our room, the water in the hotel's pool, along with jaccuzzi adjacent , was, all the time,
on the top of perfection.
The sanitary condition, taste and quality of food offered as a part of package (breakfast included), were above any praise.
The owner of the hotel, Viktor, the Netherland born gentleman, speaks all major European languages,
in the past working, for years, as a tour guide in Spain, constantly being helpful on the hotel's premises, would make everybody feel welcomed, from the very beginning, trying to accommodate any possible language barrier the European guests may have.
The hotel is very conveniently located just a half a block away from the main street of Jaco, while being entirely isolated from any disturbing noise coming from hustle environment of the street that can offer multiple choices of variety of international food businesses and all the comfort the tourists might need.
The cozy and friendly Mar De Luz is located just a few minutes away from the beach.
In general, staying in the hotel- is very worthwhile, at more than reasonable price.
“Volviendo por la cuarta vez”
Arine D (Enero 2015)
